The Second Annual Passage to Prosperity (P2P) India-Afghanistan International Trade & Investment Show was held in Mumbai from September 12-15, 2018. The goal of this USAID sponsored event was to advance trade integration by establishing economic and trade ties between Afghanistan and the international markets through improved market linkages and exports, business-to-business matching, and consumer sales. Afghan and Indian business associations were strengthened after the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC) as well as the Afghan Exporters’ Club launch of the Afghan Treasures brand.

While 2,145 people attended the show, an additional 1.1 million people were reached via Facebook during the show. A total of 1,168 matchmaking meetings were held and the P2P show featured exclusive CNBC interviews with Afghanistan Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, John Bass. The total estimated value of sales, agreements and contracts was over $363 million.

Multiple events were held related in advance and at the same time of the show in September, including launches in Kabul, Mumbai, and Washington, DC. DMG hosted a table at the IMC Ladies Wing Woman Entrepreneurs’ Exhibition in Mumbai, VIP lunches, VVIP Dinner, a private sector reception and two show receptions with celebrity panelists Mir Khan and Sawiz Abdullah of the Afghan Exporter’s Club unveiled the Afghan Treasures brand.

The overall impact of the show on framing Afghanistan as a trading partner was significant, as the P2P results have been widely shared with the governments of Afghanistan, India and US, as well as the government and private sector.
